 INTRODUCTION TO CAHSEE Minimize

The California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) is a graduation requirement for all public school students.  The exam is administered to all students for the first time in grade ten in order to allow students adequate time for preparation and multiple opportunities to pass the exam before they graduate.

Additional Opportunities

Students who do not pass one or both parts of the CAHSEE (English and Math) in grade ten will have additional opportunities to take the part(s) they have not previously passed.  Once a student has passed one part of the CAHSEE, he/she will not have to retake that part.  Grade eleven and twelve students will have the following opportunity to take the CAHSEE in Marhc:

Test Dates:

    • March 11, 2008 (English-Language Arts)
    • March 12, 2008 (Mathematics)

Grade ten students who were absent during the February administration will aslo be tested during the March test dates.  If your student did not pass one or both parts of the CAHSEE, the school will automatically register your student to take the next administration of the CAHSEE until he/she has passed both parts.  It is important that your student attends school on test days.

Supplemental Instruction

Our school district is committed to helping your student satisfy the CAHSEE requirement.  If a student does not pass either, or both portions of the CAHSEE, the student will be enrolled in the appropriate CAHSEE preparatory Mathematics course the following semester.  These courses will take preference over a student's selected electives.  In addition, please realize that students will also be required to take their required Math and English courses, so conceivably students could be taking two Math and/or two English courses.

Should you have any questions, please contact your student's counselor in the Guidance Office at (530) 633-3100 extension 110.
